    Aluminum GWL close combat clasp?

I am curious about a GWL close combat clasp in aluminum.

Do these have the same characteristics as other GWL clasps in regards to pin assembly, maker mark, and crimping technique?

Specifically the crimping...although the plate is crimped in on each side, the one I am looking at seems to have been repeatedly tapped along the edge to seal in the plate, as opposed to one vertical hit on each side.

I am a little thrown off that there are obvious detail differences on this aluminum badge I am looking at, but to be honest, I dont know if this is the norm because it is aluminum? I initally dismissed it as fake, but now I am wondering if I didnt make a mistake.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Mark

      Hey Mark,
I seem to remember this coming up before. Did you try a search? If so, and you found nothing it may have been on the old forum. I know they exsisted but I couldn't say which maker. I saw a Al. one in gold 2-3 years ago but if I remember correctly it was unmarked.

        ALUMINUM CLOSE COMBAT CLASP

I have never encountered an aluminum Close Combat Clasp. I would like to see a scan of one.

          Hi
I know one. What I can say is that it's normaly marked GWL in a circle near the catch. the assambly system is common to this mark.the weight is very light. the pin is not flat but square. the plate is deeply verticaly crimped on each side, and 2 little crimping points appear on each side of the plate.

Interesting..so the aluminum clasps dont have the maker mark between the hinge and back plate, like regular GWL clasps?

I dont understand what you mean by "the pin is not flat but square"?

              Hi
I have made a mistake, I inverted the words "catch" and "hinge". The makers mark is between the plate and the hinge (on the right when you look the reverse).
The pin is neither round nor flat but with a square section. I'll post a pic of this badge.
