Hello, this is my first attempt at posting, so here goes! Could I please have some opinions on this flak badge. Pictures to follow - hopefully!

So far, so good. The front of the badge looks correct for a Wernstein. Post pictures of the reverse. Wernstein has a unique hinge and catch assembly.

Thanks Lorenzo, can you let me know how to post other images on the same thread. Also how to reduce the size of the picture?
I'm not too hot with technology!!!!

The catch and mark both look correct. To reduce the picture you need photo editing software such as Paint or Photo Editor et al. You can only attach one image per post, so just continue posting replies to this thread to attach more images.

I think the badge looks right. The hinge plate looks correct, but the connecting pin looks longer and a little different than on others I have seen. It should be buntmetal, but yours has a "zinky" appearance. Maybe re-soldered or replaced?...maybe not.

Generally speaking, though, I think your badge looks authentic.

                Dear Lorenzo,

Please have a look at this Wernstein badge. The catch is a replacement, but what about the hinge and the position of the Wernstein mark? Have you seen this type before? It seems to be ok from the obverse, also the revesre shapes look good...the real thing too?

                Cheers, Frank

Thanks for the information Lorenzo, and you're right the pin assembly has come away from the top of the badge and the pin looks as though it has been replaced,

                    Regards

                    Paul W

Hi Frank. ummmm...tough call from the scan, but the hinge on your is definitely different from the traditional Wernstein type. However, you can tell better than I if the assembly is original or replaced. I suppose it could be an original set-up if you don't see any indications that another hinge-plate was ever there.
Here is a link to my Wernstein Flak for comparison. Notice that the mark on mine is in the center.

Here is a scan of the hinge on a Wernstein IAB that I have. Notice that it has the traditional hinge-plate...but it has a "shepherds-hook" type of pin. I personally believe that the pin assembly was replaced on this IAB.

                        Dear Lorenzo,

That Wernstein flak badge on the blue background is not one of my badges, I just have stored this pic from a dealer´s site. That hinge might very well be also a replacement, I also cannot make a better judgement from the pic. Good to see the same position of the mark on your Wernstein flak.

About the IAB of which you show the typical Wernstein hinge:

I actually sold a Wernstein GAB recently on the e-stand that also has that typical Wernstein hinge with the traditional pin. (see pic, I hope the new owner doesn´t mind)

The pic below it however shows another Wernstein GAB from my collection. Note that it has a completely different hinge/pin/catch system! Obviously NOT replaced.

                        Cheers, Frank
