    J3 Pilot Badge opinions

    Hi guys,

Would like some opinions on this J3. My concern is the maker mark, which is pretty blurry in real life, almost as if it is a casting, but can't find any other traces of this being a cast badge.

    Thanks

    Tom D.

It certainly looks good from these pictures, J3 wreath and eagle, nothing jumps out at all. The rivets match up perfectly to one of my pictures. The mark doesn't look bad from here either. The wreath is very shiny, was it polished or is it that good?

Looks like an authentic J3 to me thats had the wreath cleaned and quiet recently by the looks of it.

Looks good to me. Has all the right characteristics of a J3. I have to agree with Skip, however, the wreath looks to have been polished which is a shame since the eagle has retained all it's original finish. Still a good badge though!

            Hi Tom,

I agree with the above comments, reminds me a bit of the badges that received the Joe D treatment

Here is my uncleaned J3 to compare it with.

Hi guys, thanks for all the replys!

Philippe, thanks for posting yours, the maker mark is a match to yours, same depth. It seems the others I have seen (and the 2 other Juncker badges I have) have a more defined maker mark. Once is a J1 Pilot and the other a J2 RO/AG (remember her Skip).

I too was concerned abou the really shiny appearance, but wanted to see if this issue came out on its own. When you guys say "polished", are you thinking that the frosted finish was totally taken off, leaving only the bare nickel base material exposed? It doesn't appear that this is the base material, but more like a shiny silver finish, as it is on the hinge and catch as well. The catch is tombak as I can see the gold peeping through at the high point of the catch.

                  Thanks

                  Tom D.

                    Tom,

yes, I remember the J2 AG/RO. Nice to know its found a good home.

I think your wreath has just been polished up a little. its removed all the frosted appearance from the front (see Phils) and has left a shine on the reverse. What you see is the thick silver plating, if it was down to the base material it would be yellow looking IMO.
After a while that shine will dull down and nobody will notice it anymore.
Phil, good point on the "joe D´" look

Like the others, I don't see anything wrong with your J3.
