    Hi,

The cutouts on the wings (among other features) are hand finished so variations are to be expected. It's the obverse details where detailed comparisons should be being made imo.

      Hello Mike,

I do not think that anyone said that their was anything wrong with the obverse detailing or that the badge was not original. I would just like to see if someone has reference similiar to this example. The strike is new to me as well as the wing cut out or lack of. This is an interesting piece because of those aspects. Are these variations to the reverse an exceptable standard??

I believe the circle around the MM is just as Mike said. With respect to this, earlier Assman examples were made with a raised logo.
            Best regards,

            Tony

              Hi,
on close inspection the eagle and makers mark are die struck, look at the edges of the eagle do not know what type of metal eagle is,but check out my assmans general assault on another post that also has a circle around the makers mark, its not the same mark it's raised and this badge is obviouslya late type.
Has any body seen this type of mark before.

                Hi,
If you go to Lorenzo Brown's web site he has a badge near identical to this one,
same eagle ,reef finish ,hook ,rivets pin etc, only the makers mark is without circle it's even got the same file marks to the reverse.
                Are you out there Lorenzo.

I think the badge looks good but I can't explain the mark. It looks like Bill's mark with a circle around it. I haven't seen that before, but Assmann was a very prolific badgemaker who made beaucoup badges from before the war through the end. They had numerous employees working their badges and most certainly went through various mark, design and finishing changes during that course....as did Juncker and other long-term badgemakers. The badge looks OK to me.

                    same wing finish...

Here is one more Assman Observer Badge with the 'unfinished' wing detail. The MM is hard to see until you bring it in closer. And as odd as it is, the MM does appear to be within a circle on this example. This is new to me as well. I too have the Assman Obs badge with the conventional MM and 'finished' wing detail. Hope this will help resolve any doubts. Robert
