    Juncker 2nd Type Pilot Badge

    Hello Fellas,
I just received this one in today - My first Juncker Pilots Badge of ANY type! How'd I do? It looks pretty textbook to me! Boy these Juncker Pilots are hard to find! I was beginning to think Mr. Calvert had them all!

      Hi Eric,

      Looks nice to me!
Notice the left claw (when viewed from the front) has a little right angle trimmed into it. Every J2 I've seen has featured this.
Also appears to be quite a bit of frosting left on the badge.
I like the copper colored hinge too.
      Nice one!

Thanks Tim and Joe! I was waiting for this one for about two weeks, and I too believe it was well worth the wait! Tim, was the copper colored hinge pretty standard for a Juncker? Is it actually Tombak? The finish on the hinge is only worn off in the one area on the hinge like it was rubbing up against the tunic. The rest of the hinge retains the silver/black/silver finish.

            Hi Eric,

I wouldn't say the copper hinge is mandatory, but I've encountered it quite often. And I do mean copper, not tombak. There is that pinkinsh color to it.

I think that they simply attached a small pipe to the top of the badge, then made two cuts to remove the center, which became the middle section of the hinge. Notice the two cut marks above the hinge?

              Hi Tim,
Thanks for the information! The thought of the hinge piece being attached first and then cut makes perfect sense to me now. I was always curious about the two "slices" at the top of Juncker made badges, but now that I look at it the "slices" are perfectly matched up to the actual cuts in the hinge where the pin portion would fit in. My early Juncker Air Gunner badge has the same two "slices" above the hinge. I don't recall seeing these marks on any other manufacturers badges.
