    Air gunner OK ??

    Hi,

what are your opinions on this air gunner ? The case is OK, I checked this before. But what about the badge ?? The wreath is zink, the bird is brass, the needle, the catch and the rivets are iron.

    Regards,

          Hi Dirklein,

I would like to see clearer pics of the obverse as well as a full shot of the maker mark and a few shots of the catch from the side angle. I do not like the soft details of the wreath as viewed from the reverse. The inner and outer edges of the wreath have a lot more detail than yours does. Also, the hinge and pin is not typical B&NL. The catches on these are usually sunken down on their later war zink pieces, but it doesn't look like yours is. I don't think this is a rule, but most of them have it. From what I can see of the maker mark, it looks a little thin, but a better shot of it would be better to make sure.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

IMO that badge is not an original B&NL. Even as the war progressed and the materials changed from tombac to zinc the same eagle and wreath was used for this maker, only the hinge and catch changed. Compare the wreath on this badge to an original B&NL and the differences will be apparent.
