Hi Guys !
I need your help . Look at this IMME Pilotbadge , colour on badge . What kind of light should I use to get the right colour when I use my digital camera . Detail is good , but colour is not correct .

Dear Lillegutt,

Before I went over to a scanner, I made my pictures in my office which has a typical office neon light on the ceiling. I didn´t use a flash. That "cold" light, at ceiling distance, provided good authentic colours.

Probably your light source is too "warm" (yellow) as opposed to "cold" (blue) and too close.

A good colour correction in a software like Photoshop can also get rid of this problem.

Just a thought here, but I find I get better authentic color when I use a lighter color backround, white, light blue, etc. It looks like the deep red color is reflecting of the surface of the wreath, causing an off color. You may want to try it if all else fails, it can't hurt!

I tried with indirect light , turned the light up to the roof . Think that was better .
Both pics is take without flash . And with macro configuration on camera .

I always try to take my photos in natural light that way the true colours show up best.

Check to see if your camera has a white balance control that you can use in auto or manual as it's always best to get the color balance right when capturing the image as opposed to post processing. A lot of cameras now have settings for sun, overcast, flourescent, tungsten and other lighting situations.

Black backgrounds can look good though a little harder to get the exposure spot on. This is when a camera with spot meter can help so if you have that feature on the camera then meter for the badge itself.

If just starting out maybe try something like an 18% grey plain background to make metering real easy for the camera.

Thanks to all of you for inputs !
I have tried with some other background colour . WhenI used a scanner I always used a red colour . Think I had to change now that I have a camera .
Daylight is best , no doubt about that . Today it has been dark the hole day here .
Took one shot with light green and one with white backgroud .
Light green looks OK .
