I was also slightly misunderstood. When I said that the cutouts on Juncker Bomber clasps are different, I did not mean the triangle holes. These are absolutley identical in technique to the holes on the clasp in question: first drilled, then filed into triangles. What I meant were the outlines of the WHOLE badge, which are so different from Juncker's that the clasp in question cannot possibly be a Juncker made clasp.

We will have a hard time comparing this clasp with KNOWN makers of flight clasps and determine its originality that way. This is because there is a very small number of known makers of TOMBAK flight clasps and a far bigger number of unknown (always unmarked, it seems) maker clasps.

We simply have to go by gut feeling and experience and as far as I know, this clasp generally does not look disturbing to me. The finish of the obverse does, on some scans, but the big scan of the center obverse convinced me. I see more matt recesses and polished highlights.
    Cheers, Frank

      Hi Frank,

Thank you very much for your comments, and to all that responded. My original intent was to find out the maker (and of course opinions) on this clasp. Did not expect this would ever invoke so many responses. I never really doubted the clasp, but it appears opinions vary on what makes a good clasp. Which, by the way, holds true for many other items in this hobby. I picked up a few tips on other makers and what to look for, so it was a good learning experience.

      Thanks again,
      Tony

        Gold Bomber

        Hello,
I would like to point out that Tony bought the bomber clasp from me. It was vet obtained in 1976 for $15. The gold finish on that clasp I have observed on similar examples. The clasp is 100% legit and original.
        Regards,
        Jody

            Hi Jos,
Even in 1976 $15 was considered cheap (I was 12 at the time). Actually my mother spotted it first for me at a garage sale. So my mother paid out the $15 not me.

BTW, I remember I showed the clasp to Steve Wolfe and Neil Hardin (when they had their shop) and they sure had no issues with it. They even offered to trade for it.
            Regards,
            Jody

              Hi guys,

This beautiful clasp stayed on my mind for ever. Found a second one by that maker. A 100% attributed piece but, nfortunately, also unmarked. The recipient was a Stuka pilot and received it on March 25th, 1942.

Thought I'd bring this thread up for those few who enjoy a nice clasp

              Best regards,

              Albert

PS: Jody, there are no issues with that clasp
