      I think the badge....

...... looks pretty good to me, but have yet to learn how to distinguish between the different types. His initial picture was kinda lousy, these were the scans he sent. Here's the initial photo he offered. What a difference in color??!

This is the Type III Tombak badge. It looks OK from a distance, but I would have to see it closer to really give you an opinion that matters. Looks like a lot of the bluing has been rubbed off the reverse of the eagle and the front is pretty worn as well.

One thing I see is that the badge is very worn down and still shows a silver colored base metal. Aren't J2 and J3 Junckers all tombak??? It looks like the same metal that JMME badges are made from.

          Should show a yellow-brassy colored base metal...no?

            Yep, J3.

I've seen all three style Juncker pilots with nickle silver base metal. More often they are tombak, but there were a few here and there with the silver colored base metal. (Check Bryan Poon's J2).

I think the badge is OK, but I don't think I would want it, looks to me like somebody over-cleaned it to the point of wearing it WAY down! I would almost call it "damaged".

The case is also in pretty marginal condition and has the less desirable flocked interior (am I allowed to say "flock" on a public forum?).

Not the nicest badge out there. There are nice ones to be had and Stogie deserves a nice one!

Here is a shot of an easy way to tell the difference between a J2 and a J3. Check the middle feather line in this J3....

...and here is a J2 wing. Notice the central feather line runs through the middle of the wing?

J1s are very obviosly different, so I won't post one here.

                Here are all three styles.
                J1, J2, & J3.
                See the difference?

Thanks Guys, I appreciate the opinions and observations. I'll wait for a better one to come along! Cheers! Rick
