is this an original period clasp , I don't have too much experience handling LW badges so would appreciate some other opinions,

Awful fake, almost everything is wrong, the hinge, hook, maker mark, metal alloy the thing is made from.

AGREED, common fake with very soft detailing and incorrect maker mark.
