A nicely worn and textbook imme paratrooper, fletchless wing variant.
Case is fine too! A lovely set. Interesting tag, might be researchable.

      Hi Mark,

A gorgoues original JMME Para for me as well, nice patina and nice worn look, especially the worn down rivet heads. For sure saw some action. Case is good to, great set.

        Found some very interesting info.
I could find one Heinz Grelck in the database of the wehrmacht.
His last rank was Jäger (like mentioned on the tag) and he was born on 18/5/1922.
He died on 20/5/1941 and is buried at the hero cemetry in Maleme, Kreta. His grave is at block 3 grave 546.
Interesting is that he got killed at the very first day of the assault on Kreta. They landed at 8am that day to secure the airfields in Maleme & Chania.
They endured heavy allied resistance and many died that day. Many German paratroopers landed behind enemy lines and took defensive positions near the Maleme airfield. Soon they were all surrounded and encircled by British troops, and eventually killed. I suspect that this badge is a British vet bringback.
A wonderful badge with fascinating history. That's what i search in para badges, if ever you part with it, drop me a line.

Thanks for the input ,what are the chances that he took part in the Eban-Emael raid ,he was 8 days off his 18th birthday?

Impossible! He was not a member of Sturmgruppe Granit led and trained by Rudolf Witzig. All the paratroopers that boarded the 11 glider planes for the attack on the Belgian fortress are well documented and Heinz Grelck is not one of them. I also think he was too young. These man were long trained before the final assault. He would have been too young.

With all the documentation you have i would recommend you to request his wehrmacht record. There you will find all the documentation you desire. Search for ‘Deutsche Dienststelle’ or ‘wast’ and provIde them all the information you have about the paratrooper. It will take up to a year before they reply and cost you between 10-15€. I get crazy for the long waiting time and i think i have currently about 7 requests ongoing but it’s worth the wait if your curious about the military service of a soldier. Sometimes you get very surprising information.

Yes, some very interesting background, was the nametag in the case with the badge?

                              Hi.
yes the tag was in the box with the badge, it was just a thought about Eban-Emael Witzig was only 23 at the time and I saw this photo of them after the raid and the young lad 3 paratrooper from the right stood behind looks about seventeen and looks rather like Heinz.
