Dear Yuri,

      Some observations:

      -eagle is Assmann

      -wreath is Assmann

-rivets are ok for a LATE style Assmann

-hinge is ok for a LATE style Assmann

-usually Assmann catches are roundwire, also on the late type Assmanns where the catch is soldered to a plate. At least as far as I have seen, but catch generally doesn******180;t look bad.

Thanks for the reply Frank. I am in agreement with you on all of the points.

Does anyone else have an opinion on this badge?

          Hi Yuri/Frank

I have heard (and I did see once) of the double marking on late Assman parabadges. So I believe this did happen. As for the actual shape of the mark, I can't remember if it was like this .

But have to agree the 'A' is not like any Assmann 'A' I have ever seen.

I have seen at least 3 different ways that the "A" has been represented before.

              Yuri,

Rich is correct in that the very late war Assmann Para badges were often marked with that very same style. If you have Foremans awards book you can find a pic. on page 143. Some of these Para badges were marked and others were not. These were injection molded and have the circle marks where the pins pushed it out of the dies. I have one of the unmarked ones. Your badge is one which was die forged however. I also have a late war Assmann Para. badge which was die struck in zinc that has that exact hindge, pin and catch on a round pod set-up. It is marked with just the typical A stamp however.

IMO, your badge is 100% correct.
I love it. Is it for sale? he! he!

                  Hi,
I once had a late zink parabadge that had the double marking A/L64.
This is a original used marking and the P/O looks original to me too !

I am confortable with this badge being an original late Assmann badge, less about it to be a combined P/O

I think you guys are right, the pin is painted too,bad sign maybe....
The badge is original though, but probably has some new coating...however,the parabadge I owned was as late as this badge and the eagle was painted the same way...in that case only the front of the eagle...it was original done though..

                            zinc late-war badge marked "A" L/64

                            Dear Yuri and All,

Here is a first close-up photo of a zinc late-war LW para badge marked "A" L/64 ("1" wreath marked):

A second photo of a zinc late-war LW para badge marked "A" L/64 ("2" wreath marked):

These marks, I believe to be 100% original, look very similar to the "A" L/64 mark on your Assmann Combined Pilot.

                            Happy collecting!

I am probably out of my element here...

...but I am not 100% sure that the paint on the P/O badge is all that bad. I have a Combined Pilot/Observer badge from an unimpeachable source that is very much like this one, rivits, style, hinge assembly, to include the slight gilding on the pin assembly (though just with the Assmann "A"). The gilding on mine is not quite as heavy as it is on this one, but it sure does look the same. I have seen so few examples or photos of such badges, however, could this be a regular characteristic for late war Assmann P/O badges?

Again, I am out of my element here and will definitely defer to those far more experienced than I, but I thought I would add this to the fray...

                              Best regards,
                              Eric S.
