    Dear Ivan,

Thanks for your comments and I can see why you say so. It is a strange badge that is for sure. I have already found at least one matching die characteristic in this strange badge and the two from Alan! I hope Alan can send me even clearer pics as he did send already, then I will post a comparison of those here.

-eagle is strange and different, agreed.

-it was not my intention to say the hinge/pin/catch has REMAINING silver on it and the rest of the reverse not. The reverse was NEVER silver except for the hinge/pin/catch on this badge. Neither was the wreath on the obverse.

-and about your doubt about zinc looking so shiny after 60 years I would like to answer with a pic:

...and if you think I am totally crazy by now, then check this out. These are the BLURRY scans from Alan, hope to get better ones. Big picture is the questionable badge, inserts are Alan´s two GBs.

There is a perfect match of a die characteristic which is a small glob of zinc in between two cloudbows on all three badges! Agree?

        Dear friend,

it seems that this characteristic there is, but it needs to have some greatest photos of Alan to be sure.

The brightness that I intend me and I think also Lawrence intends to say => the brightness of your PAB is not so "new type" as the other, it has that classical patina of a just printed piece in a recent time.

I desire to submit to your attention some different characteristic dies among the three badges instead (those sorts in negative they underline a different width of the top of the garland) - premised that the two badges of Alan are effected by two different dies.

          Dear Ivan,

True. So I hope clearer scans from Alan or any other GB GCB owner in this forum will help to come to a final conclusion.

Come on, these aren´t so rare. Please check your collections for GB marked GCBs guys!

          Cheers, Frank H.

I remember Michael Loecke (member of this forum lives near Munich) that I meet in Stuttgart show this year, has bought one . I will ask to him to send some scans.

This thread died before it was finished. Anyone still care about the G.B. marked Luft GAB? Based on mine which is perfect, I have some serious doubts about the example first posted. I'm searching Luft GAB's because I saw one today that was zinc, not my favorite material, but it was MINT. Here's the thing. It had like an enamel grey paint on the clouds. Bugged me. Also the price bugged me 275. No room for error there.

Here's a pic from the store. I'll get a better picture but this one's driving me crazy, to buy or not to buy...

                Brians,

Even if it was real, the price for a one piece cast late war zinker is ridiculous.

Yeah, my thoughts on the price too, but what's up with the enamel paint? A vet retouch if it is real??? I saw the post where someone paid B.Shea over $500, yeow... No, there's no upside to 275 for zinc. She's got a gold sport badge I'm going to get tomorrow though. As you said in another post, not very sexy, but all I have is bronze so the gold is an addition and it's priced like a bronze.

Just throw mine into the discussion as well.
I personally have no problems with Franks badge, and just saying it looks to new is no reason, just look at some of the minty badges we get to see here some times, a good example was my RSS HSF badge, it all depends on how the things have been stored. The shiny colour could be attributed to the protective laquer thet was applied after finishing.

                    just my thoughts.

                      Hi Frank,
I missed this thread when it first started. Here are pics of a GB GCB I once owned. What I'm not comfortable with on the badge you orignially posted is the eagle. The beak looks different but more than that the eagle on your's appears to be missing the middle talon grasping the swastika.

                            Dear Paul,

Yes, we came to that conclusion that the eagle is not textbook GB. IMO the rest of the badge is. My thougths (as this badge is near mint) are not towards relaced eagle but more towards eagle used from another maker´s stock. I am still happy with the badge. A little non-textbook here and there can be refreshing at times!

                            Cheers, Frank
