    3-Rivet R.K.

Not to muddy the waters, but just to show a nice three-rivet Rudolf Karneth badge.

I believe the wreath is supposed to be silver, but the badge reverse is supposed to be dark and not silver. What do I know?

The weight on my zinc badge is 25.0 grams and compares favorably to other known R.K. originals. I did see one once that appeard to be tombak or some other heavy metal, but I could not say for sure if the badge was authentic. It would be curious to see what the apparent tombak badges above might weigh-in as.

Thanks for setting me straight on the wreath color, guys. I really do not know where I got the notion it was supposed to be dark. All my books confirm what was related here (I should have looked there first, anyway.)

I still have concerns of whether the wreath on mine is deliberately dark or just loss of finish. When I get the chance I will pull it out of the display case and take some more pictures, or at the very least invest some more time studying it.

          Hi Mark,

often these badges lost completely the silver finish, as you know, it's a zinc's reaction.

Otherwise, the reverse is usual finish only with grey colour of zinc.

            Hi Tim,

very nice example of an original "R.K." marked badge.

Speaking of this badge R.K. marked, I desires to bring the attention of whom wants to exactly purchase this badge marked R.K. to be careful that, besides the "ears" that they hold the hinge, the rivets and the "R" of the marker, the lock of the cacth that has to exactly be as that of Tim.
I have seen unfortunately recently from some serious sellers the sale of productions after-war: even if the new fakes are better done in rivets and "ears", they are noticed by the different lock of the catch.

One example of the wrong lock you can see in the fake-section of this site.

              Hey,
Here are some pics of a GH Osang badge I just got. What do you all think? Clouds had blue/grey paint or something on them, you can see scrape marks where someone removed most of it. Sorry about color was in rush. Much brighter silver than shown.

Pin's been replaced. Standard GH Osand badges had needle pins, unlike the tapered pins of the 3 rivet MuK5 and RK pieces.

I agree with Gene and would even go further, the whole hinge/pin/catch is replaced, not typical Osang at all.

Finish of clouds and stones should be darker. Probably you will find it under that paint, if it was "refreshed" by somebody.

                            Cheers, Frank H.

                              Hi Terry,

I agree me too about hinge system and the eagle's beak is strange too for me, what do you think?

                                Hi everyone,
The angle of the pic is what makes the eagle's beek look funny. Also the cloud does look like some one has painted it and removed the paint. I have to think that the pin was replaced during the war as it is well done and shows age. I believe it is a good one though, at least I hope. I've got about $250 in trade in it. That's too much huh?
                                Thanks,Terry
