    Luftwaffe Pilots Badge Question?

    Hello,
I recently purchased a few items from a WWII Veteran and included was this boxed pilots badge. I can only assume that it was unissued, but not my collecting interest so I'm not sure.

Anyhow, the badge apprears to have been coated with a laquer or something. I was wondering if this was something that was done by the factory or if maybe something got on the badge. Not sure and any help/opinions would be great. I've posted a couple of photos though not the greatest, but they should work. Thanks for your time.

    Regards,
    Steve

      Steve,

You have a late war zinc pilot's badge, made by makers unknown. The lacquer is a wartime application. It's nice to see that it's stil in the original box; if you can post a pic of the top of the box that would be nice. You have a great set there!

This "fang tooth" unknown maker also has a little varnish left on it, look between the wing feathers in the reverse photo.

              Hi Steve,

Very nice zinker, I like it when they still got their finish!

Could you post better pictures of the very intresting box and tissue paper? (maybe on our package forum...)

Nice find, and unusual to find them still with their lacquer on.
Like Giel suggests, can you post some pics in the package forum?

                  Thanks

                  Hello,
First, I want to thank everyone for taking the time to answer my question. I'm very relieved to know its a factory finish. Thanks.

Second, Philippe the swastika looks to me as if it's slightly bent upwards. I've photographed it (hope it works). Is the swastika being bent upwards a bad thing?

Finally, my goal is to hand on this thing a few years before selling it. Can anyone give any information on proper storage for this. Any information would be very helpful. And by request heres some more photos I hope there good enough. THANKS AGAIN!!!

                  Warm regards,
                  Steve

                            Steve,

you should keep it stored like its been the last 60 years or so. Pack it back into its box and put it in a warm dry place with no damp. It´ll stay good for the next 60 years then.

                              Hi Steve ,

It for sure isn't. In fact I have a buntmetall PO from this maker that has the same problem. When I bought it I was told it took a hit at some point hence the bend swas.

It was only after showing it to Pieter Verbruggen that I learned that this was factory done to make the whole thing fit. Your badge is the third badge I see from the unknown maker that features this bend. Most likely on some badges the rivet holes were drilled just a fraction to low and this made it necessary to bend the swas just a little to make the eagle fit.
