Tombak Luftwaffe Radio Operator/Air Gunner Badge by Berg & Nolte

    Hi everyone,

Glad to show you guys my latest addition to my collection
Just bought this beautiful Radio Operator/Air Gunner badge by Berg & Nolte. I personally absolutely love the patina on this one and I just couldn't resist buying it.

These pictures are made by the seller so I will post some more when the badge arrives. Just had to share this

Let me know what you think!
I guess this is quite an early example considering the overall quality of the badge, am I right?

        Hi Job and Seb,

To me, it looks like a period repair which I don't really mind. I'm not an expert on this so.. Do you think it's repaired to sell better?

          Hi BKEHV
IMO you you can never be fully sure if its done periodly or not. Some times you see good patina that would indicate its done long ago. Still I would personally never sell something as period repaired unless its a know factory repair that is typical for the variant.
I know where this came from and I have seen more than a hand full of repairs there so I wouldn`t trust it as period. But thats just my opinion it, everyone needs to make up their own mind when it comes to having repaired pieces. It surely is an original badge and that is the most important thing.
If the price was right still a nice buy.

That was my main reason to buy. I often see these badges with different colors on the wreath and the eagle. Or it looks like the finish on the wreath is loosened or something..
I love color and patina on this one.

Regarding the rivets, sometimes B&NL rivets have flattened top and is not always obvious. Usually when rivets are tightened there are obvious tool marks and rivets are misshapen and no longer uniform. In the badge in question I dont see that. Here's a badge i have adn there is also slight flattening to the rivets.

                    It's a tough call.

This example also reinforces my view on the rivets being untouched.

Cool! Thanks for sharing this one.
I received the badge today and the rivets don’t look like someone messed with them.

The obverse of the badge with it’s dark patina is absolutely beautiful. I’m really happy with this one

Thanks Chris! In my opinion these early B&NL’s are one of the best looking variants of ROAG badges. I would probably only replace it for a Juncker J1 or a similar B&NL without repaired catch
