    Hi
There is no problem with that, it is the original J3, but the catch was repaired

Nice J3. I would like to see better pictures of the catch. Sometimes the reflection on the solder looks different than the base material and these pictures are not really good…
        Kind regards,
        Giel

My thought as well, sometimes the glare of the lights will make it look like a repair but its just the different angle of surface. Some better closeups are needed to be sure, these closeups are a little grainy and hard to tell.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

              Wow what a beauty!
I’m not a fan of the j3 design but this particular example is just lovely.
              Crisp detail and beautiful patina.
According to me the catch is just fine.

                Hello again.

These are the best photos that I have been able to take with my mobile. I hope they help, if not in the next few days I will take better photos with the camera.

                Thanks!!

There is definitely something on the catch interior side. The other side show textbook paint on the solder but not the other side. I suspect it is not a solder repaired but glue on an existing crack!!! Can you remove it with something? is it soft?

Might also be some oxidation caused by an impurity in the solder.
I have seen it before on other badges, where it also formed a white substance.
That it is the original catch leaves no doubt. If the catch was completely resoldered you would also see marks on the other side. I think it’s just oxidation though.

Indeed both of you are right, it is a kind of rust. Easy to clean.

                      Wise men, a thousand thanks.IMG_20200325_202509.jpg
