As I posted earlier, I have a nice 100% original finish alpaka goblet to Unteroffizier Hans Jaekel in einem Kampfgeschwader, came from a Canadian vet in the 1960s. I finally located and have obtained the 30/11/1942 Ehrenliste with his name entry.

Any thoughts on how I might track down my goblet owner's Kampfgeschwader? Thanks!

OFw Heinrich Wilhelm Ahnert - JG-52

OFw Ahnert flew with 3/JG-52. He scored his first victory, a Hurricane, over Ostend on 15 February 1941. He claimed 4 more more by 12 September - two Blenheims & 2 Spitfires. JG-52 moved to the East and Ahnert was credited with his first in Russia, a I-16 on 10 October. He received the Ehrenpokal on 23 February 1942 - an 835 Silver pokal. His score mounted rapidly and in May & June 1942 he recorded 30 victories. He was adding to his score in July and August . He was awarded the German Cross in Gold on 27 July 1942. his last victory was an Il-2 on 23 August 1942 - his 57th. He met his fate attacking a Pe-2 that same day when he was hit by fire by the rear gunner and crashed to his death. He was flying Bf-109G "Yelllow 9".

Ironically it was that same day that he was to receive the Knight's Cross. According to the Volksbund he has no known burial place. His photo, with Knight's Cross, has obviously been photo-shopped. His KC, DKiG, Pilot's Badge are in the collection of another WAF member. None of his documents are known to exist.

Was it photo-shopped or did he receive his award and later that day was killed in action?

I wondered where this Kampfgeschwader 51 grouping had ended up! I considered long and hard on this set, too long as it turned out as it is indeed a very nice set indeed and definatly one I regret not going for.

I do not know the location of his actual Ehrenpokal however, I know that his Wehrpass was being punted around dealer sites for quite some time before currently sitting in a collection in Scotland at this time.

                            Regards Richard.

Great thread, the biographies on these pilots is astonishing...just for example Nossek, escape & evasion behind Russian lines, shot down 5 (!!) times, 800 missions (!)...and dies just days before the end of the war...fascinating stuff gentlemen.

The history of these pieces makes them special. One of the few pieces of militaria from the TR era that cane be researched.
