    FLL pilot/observer badge for review

    Hi all,

I am only recently becoming involved in collecting Luftwaffe badges. I have checked Toms fantastic thread on badges and this badge is listed as Zinc FLL. However there are some differences with the reference on the thread.
Most notably the shape of the hinge (similar to the Tombac version) and the one domed and one flat rivet. Could this have been done to retighten the eagle.
Also is the wreath repainted? Although the rivets are not?

    Questions questions

    Many thanks
    Barry

Thats a repainted Pilot badge. You can clearly see some gold paint on the swastika lower ends, Behind wings and on the fixing pin. Also this is not the bright color FLL used for their PO.

      Hi Sebastian,

Thanks for the prompt reply and also your wonderful pictures on Thomas’s thread.

Knowledge is key and that thread is awesome.

      My initial thoughts were correct.

          Hi Alex.

          Thank you for your reply.

Plus rereading my initial comment I would like to clarify that the reference to it being an FLL zinc badge was on the website currently selling it

My apologies in case there was any confusion

Definitely a repaint. Not an original P/O finish from FLL.

Yep, I can only agree, repainted PO. The texture and color of the finish is not right, then seeing gold paint on the swastika as Seb spotted is the nail in the coffin.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Messed with pilot for sure… emedals seems to have a weakness for refinished pilot badges. If you look at there sold inventory there are countless examples of messed with badges. Know what you buy!

                        As I initially thought.
