Outstanding clasp and case, both are very rare and in good condition.

Outstanding case and clasp. For a clasp collector it does not get any better.

As the Luftwaffe did not make Bronze, Silver or Gold Long Range fighter clasps (told pilots to wear normal day fighter upside down) This is the only way to get a tombac example

            Hi Kerfu,

I am not sure what you are referring to, the long range day fighter clasp that started this thread is tombak.

You do see some pilots wearing short range fighter clasps upside down though (the one n the post card is a Long Range Day Fighter clasp.

              Jeff,

A beautiful cased clasp and I would love to have either/both in my collection.

              Congrats!

For goodness sake, I know. The only tombac Long Range clasps I have seen are gold ones with hangers

No reason to bang head. Your statement was unclear.

                            Update

Thanks to you all for your comments.

So the guy I purchased the clasp from contacted me with details of the apparent owner of this clasp. So for what it's worth it was attributed to Willy Tritsch, but I only have his word to establish provenance - weak at best.

Nice portrait. While you can't prove it belonged to him without better provenance, it is nice to have, at least, an attributed piece. Also there was nothing for him to gain by telling you this after you had bought the piece.

                              Either way a wonderful piece.
