Gold Plated U-Boat War Badge...

Gentlemen, I have a question... About 35 years ago I purchased a WWII German Luger with all matching numbers on the parts, but it was re-blued and has gold straw outlining all the various parts. It looks great and I like it, but because of the re-blue and the gold straw it is not a collectors item.

I plan on purchasing a U-Boat War Badge next year as a gift to me! If the U-Boat War badge were 24k gold plated would that put it in the same category as my German Luger? Nice but devalued?
