          Hi,

Belgien & Frankreich badges are fantasy fakes, this "4071" was already discussed here :

These badges do exist in original form- they are not fantasy pieces. Jo may have analysed one of the copy examples to reach that conclusion.

Completely agree. Have yet to see a Belgien & Frankreich that wasn't a miserable mold cast mess. Can't speak to the other versions - don't collect these - some do look properly die "stamped." If you believe that these are period mold cast, you need to explain why the maker would bother trying to create the reverse impression of the obverse on the back - it serves absolutely no purpose except to mimic a period stamped piece (to fool an unsuspecting buyer). The other explanation, is that there is indeed a genuine stamped version of this badge and it was used to make the mold for some fakes.

                  Hi,

to date, no supposed original ever surfaced... Only on ugly & crapy pictures, some of them post-war which are said to "authentificate" them.

But at least the "4071" is an ugly casted one.

                    I own all three.

There is no doubt that the Belguim badge did exist. It was a die struck piece.

The original examples that I own have the ID numbers struck incuse, meaning the numbers are sunk into the medal. These are applied by hand.

The specimen in post #4, shows the numbers raised and part of the "die."This alone proves to me that this is a fake. If these numbers are part of the casting, then all its children will also have the same number raised, not incuse or stamped in by hand.

Just to clarify... you are saying you have a "Belgium and France" version of these badges that is clearly die struck. It would be great if you could post some close-up pictures of this one. Thanks!
