The L/13 Meybauer U-boat from Kassel

Hi guys,

Here's a pick up I will add to my own collection. I have always had a very soft spot for Meybauer, especially when it comes down to army awards. This is one of the badges I always wanted to buy but which I hardly ever seen for sale.

With a super small L/13 maker mark near the catch, a cut out swastika, a very fine made set up and razor shar hand finishing this badge is for me one of the best U-boat badges ever made. This piece was light worn with still plenty of the gilding intact, just the way I like it

What a beauty Giel! Normally I don't get too excited about Kriegs badges (sorry Norm and John!), but this one really is a gorgeous piece with nice amount of fire gilding left on it and enough wear and nicks to give it some great character. Lovely early example and nicely marked too. I don't blame you at all for adding this one to your collection.

Almost no examples of tombak L/13 on this forum. Quick search, just a couple, maybe somebody else can find more and post.

From the ones I have seen in tombak, the mark is usually behind the pin on the reverse of the conning tower, and this beautiful example is by the catch which is interesting. I assume the marks were hand stamped in from that. I am not sure how they were applied.

Here is one I sold a while back. a really rare badge, but when I decided to sell it, almost nobody was interested. Yours a bit nicer finish then my former one Giel!

Interesting is the place of the makersmark on Giels badge, my is on the center (as most of them)
