I meant to add that I have seen another "original" award with that same reverse set up.

              Cheers,Martin.

I don't know enough about these Marinehelferin brooches and we don't yet have a database of variants on the forum. It would be good to gather them into one thread for reference.

A quick search shows these three types to start, and the first one is most like the ones posted by kfs. We really need closeups showing the dot pattern to see if they're actually the same.

Does anyone know if the fancier one with the Maedicke maker mark has special significance? I've heard it referred to as a "Leader's pin" and it would be nice to know the distinction in duties or responsibilities, if any.

                Best regards,
                ---Norm

Here's a thread from 2007 which includes some nice photos of the brooch in wear on the tie, including this one of the leader's pin which John found on the Axis History Forum.

Memories of a Marinehelferin 1941-1945 on this German website:
                    https://ewnor.de/mf/974_mf.php

Quite interesting. Sounds like it was mainly office work but often with classified materials.

                      Marinehelferin badge

Hello Norm, the third one is the "Dienstnadel für Marinehelferinnen-Führerinnen", also commonly called "Marineoberhelferin", so indeed a superior rank. I am searching one like this :-)

Thanks Joe. I'm trying to understand the ranks. From the interesting paperwork posted by Torsten back in 2007 here, I see the terms:

                        Marinehelferin (M.H.)
                        Marineoberhelferin (M.O.H.)
                        Marinehaupthelferin (M.H.H.)
                        Marinehelferin-Unterführerin (M.U.F.)

and it seems they could take a course (Lehrgang) as Führerin-Anwwärter, Leader candidates, studying to become a Führerin.

So I guess the fancier wide-bordered pin would be only for the Führerin and not the Marinehelferin-Unterführerin? And the piping on the cap, collar and lapel in the previous photo went along with the rank of Marinehelferin-Führerin.

At first glance a surprising number of ranks for office work, but perhaps it would be important in regards to different security levels.

                        Best regards,
                        ---Norm
