    9mm U-Boat for Review

I purchased a small collection of 24 stickpins knowing 3 or 4 were junk, but the photo was poor and the price seemed good so I rolled the dice. So far, 9 have ended up being fakes (really poor fakes), and a few I've confirmed as original. Trying to sort through them all to determine if the price was still fair, or if I should attempt a return

All of the war badges were poor cast slag fakes...this U-Boat, however, seems pretty good to me...but I know there are some decent fakes out there. I'm thinking this one is okay, but would greatly appreciate some opinions from you KM guys.

    Hi Brig,

That obverse design is discussed in this thread:
    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ighlight=S%26L

Quite possibly this design is by S&L but I’m perturbed by the poor obverse detail and the striations on the reverse compared with other examples, which raises the possibility of a cast fake. Also, with S&L, there’s always the possibility of post-war production.

    Best regards,
    —-Norm

Thanks Norm. I will try to get better images, but this disappointment seems to be the way of this collection more and more

          Hi Brig,

I don't get a good feeling about it. Here are two fake minis -- a 16 mm U-Boat and a 16 mm Minesweeper (which you've seen before ). Note the same rough surface on the reverse and pin knurling as on that 9 mm one. I think yours could be another cast reproduction from the same source.

          Best regards,
          ---Norm

Thanks for the input and photos...another one for the dud pile. At about 50% with this collection right now, but thus far it still looks like cost might equal around value, thankfully
