    U Boat Plaque

I found a couple of these at the SOS. I thought they were interesting. I saw a few that had sold on some dealer sites. I was told they were to celebrate the construction of each new Uboat and hung around the offices. I see similar but different styles on emedals. Does anyone know much about these?

    Interesting,
I haven't seen one of these before made. This was of course for the launching of this u-boat.
    Very interesting.
It is interesting but not too hard to construct. I am a bit skeptical. I guess it would come down to the price of these, if I was to take a plunge and purchase. Much like the tradition badges, cutlery, cigarette holders, it is nothing for someone to create some piece like this. This is just my observation. Thanks for sharing. I haven't come across anything like this before.

    Best Regards,

That was my thought exactly, but the seller guaranteed them and gave me his information if I wish to return them. I bought two, really just need one but I always buy too much at shows. The construction with the triangle hook seems correct for the period. As I mentioned a few have sold online in the $350 to $500 range.

Also the seller had a lot of original unique items mostly plates dedicated to the service of individual soldiers and some busts , so this fit his collection and if they are not original they were the only non original items on his table.

        Looks original to me.

I think this is the vessel in question:

Strange that it is not mentioned explicitly on the plaque.

This particular boat was sunk and had only gone on two patrols without much success, beyond shooting down a bomber before it was sunk by one.

I see now that U-802 is inscribed on the conning tower. Hard to see. That boat survived four patrols and was surrendered at the end of the war to the British.

Interesting item, but I have my doubts. Isn't it strange that a bunch have now appeared on the market?

I haven't seen a lot. He had 4 or 5, different boats, but he has been collecting for years, mostly stuff like this (plaques, busts, engraved plates and pieces). I trust him (my personal opinion), and all of his other items were fine. Also the ones he had were similar yet slightly different which I dont know would be the case if one person was just cranking these out. I would think there would be a lot more out there.

Of course I hope it is original as I want to keep one in my collection and I bought two. In hand when compared to other TR items it appears to be German made.

So who would get these plaques and where would they hang? Doesn’t look like something that would actually be on board the vessel since it is a wall hanger.

I was told the company who made the boat would keep them for their offices once the boat was sent out. Emedals has sold the exact same type of plaque with a slightly different design in the past.

Which dealer has it for sale?
                      Kind regards Chay

What looks modern on that? I see a typically constructed plaque of the era from the dugout bolt attachments, the hanger, the engraving style and even the wood itself.

                          But!!

I think there will be a wait and see on this but can't be 100%.

I figured out the final answer on these at the SOS, maybe I will post it later.

I don't think there will be a final answer today or tomorrow and some things are best left be. There was a staggering amount of fakes at this show and I was not even there. Amazing what was coming through here and being offered and they are getting very creative out there.

This thing here has +/- attributes... but if your smart you will keep them to yourself or you won't be able to buy certain things anymore... The enamel signs have been flowing for some time now but at this show it was front and center and loaded with them. By the dozens!!!... Plaques, trays, engraving, etc. Preying on millennials.
