    Aux Cruiser Schwerin

    Hi gents,
after I finished the Video about the history of Auxiliary Cruiser badge on my channel:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Sdw8xXSFrA

I found an extremely interesting video from WW 2 about Ship 16 / Hilfskreuzer Atlantis. So worked the material over and put it also in my channel.
Sadly, it was removed due to German you tube regulations.

Anyway, if you like to see that too, go to this link and enjoy it.

    All the best

    Another great video Sascha

Interestingly, HMS Dorsetshire not only sunk the Atlantis but also the Bismarck (with torpedos).

HMS Devonshire sank the Atlantis Stan.

In brief, her crew was rescued by the supply ship Python and Python was later sunk by HMS Dortsetshire.

The crews from both ships were then rescued by German and Italian U-boats and safely transported back to Saint-Nazaire.

      It's an amazing story.

      Cheers,Martin.

Very interesting! And a nice shot of a Juncker Hilfskreuzer badge during the award ceremony at around 1:37 in the video.

        Best regards,
        ---Norm

          Hi Norm !
          I did that as well!
I thought it was a Schwerin?

            Hi Chay,

Of course the video image is quite poor resolution, but I'd say it's still a better match to a Juncker. There are distinctive differences between the Juncker and the Schwerin in the contours of the internal margins, and also the Juncker has a "beard" under the beak of the eagle.

            Best regards,
            ---Norm

I have never used the shape of Ireland before in identifying these badges apart but it is a very good point. Clearly a Juncker just from that observation. Good eyes.

                      Good observation.

Anyway, I have two HK awards to known crewmen from the HK Atlantis. They are both Juncker.

I have seen many others awards from Atlantis crewmen that are Juncker.

At the award ceremony in Berlin,January 1942 it appears that all crewmen from the ship received the Juncker badge.

Now,i have seen groupings from Atlantis crewmen that included the Schwerin badge and the very rare Meybauer badge.

I can only think that these were later private purchase awards ??

                      Cheers,Martin.

very good video and an interesting article.

At the Juncker auxilary cruiser badge in the movie you can see very well the two toned finish of the globe.

Many of my collectors friends believe that there were only silver or browned world globes.

Two toned world globes are said to be heavily worn or cleaned ...
