    Juncker Coastal Artillery opinion

Please give me an opinion on this Juncker Coastal Artillery badge. It looks OK to me but I have some question about the pin and hook. Reverse below.

    Thanks, John

      John,

I'm not a specialist on this badge, but from what I can see, your badge looks good. I compared your reverse image with the Juncker Badge on Lorenzo's Web Site, and the catch and pin look very similar. Any chance you can get an angled closeup of the catch, on your badge?

Here is Lorenzo's example. (Lorenzo, OK to post, I hope ?)

        Juncker Badge

Mark, you are right, it is very similar to the one posted on Lorenzo's site. He describes it as an early model of this badge.

Looking at the badges of this maker on dealer websites, you see what must be the second version, it has a wider pin and the narrow hook, vice the wide one with this version.

I guess what we have then are at least two versions of the Juncker Coastal Artillery badge from what I can see.

I have had this one for a while in my collection, always liked the Juncker badge but wanted to see what other members thought.

Thanks for the image from Lorenzo's site, I was just about to do that when I saw your reply.

Also, it does not look to me that this badge has been repainted. The patina on obverse aound the gun casing and breech is over the gilding I think.

On the reverse, the wear patterns seem consistent with where the badge was attached perhaps on the uniform by the hinge and also by the hook--maybe where fingertips rubbed as the badge was hooked into place.

Also, when you look at previous posts on this badge, this maker has the distinctive line around the bottom on the reverse.

Anyway, that is how it looks to me. John

A good, worn early Juncker (all parts).

                John,

Looks good to me too. The other ones you might be thinking of are the early ones with the round wire style catch.

Notice the catches on these are very fragile and it's hard to find these Juncker badges without some kind of damage or repair to them. I think that may be why they went to the flat stock material.

                    Tim,

That badge is superb. When you sell, I want first 'dibs'.

This is new--I have something that Mark Miller wants for his collection!

You know how many times I had to wipe the drool off my keyboard after seeing different pieces from your collection!

Thanks Mark! There are a few of these floating around in a little better condition if you look.

                            Hi All,
Wondering if this Juncker badge is OK as the hinge is different. Doesn't look as though it's been replaced but maybe it has?
