I agree with the others, nice original. There are good fakes out there of ShuCo destroyers, but yours is a good one. The destroyer typically has a matt black finish applied, which you can still see traces of in the recesses of you badge.

                Hi,

Original badge, yes, but I'll ask the question re the finish - is the finish original? I see a worn reverse, worn waves of the obverse and poor detail around the well "gilded" eagle (I know, I know, the detail on these wasn't great to begin with). And is that a speck of gold paint on the bridge (sort of half way between the guns but offset to the right maybe 5 mm?)? Sorry guys, these days I am just really sceptical of good finishes on zinc badges.

                Regards

                    Hi Robert,

I think yours is the post war reproduction I mentioned in my earlier post, sorry.
You can see the differences in the "S" and "O" in the mm.

                      Thanks Tom,

Normally I would totally agree with you. However I bought this badge personally last summer in <st1:country-region><st1 ="">Germany</st1></st1:country-region>. It came from former kriegsamrine sailor, who is a very good friend of my family (no chance for refund then…). Are you absolutely positive about this?

Hi guys once again thanks for the comments much appreciated . Im sorry to say Robert i agree with Tom. It is also my understanding that the rounded s and larger than normal o were post war repros. All the best.

MRG, If you will read this post, then you will see that I have “second variant”. As I said before, my badge came from over 80 years old man (former sailor). I have a hard time to imagine him as head of the European fakers ring…
