      Hi Ian,

Both badges appear to be genuine wartime construction. The finish looks good on both and may also be genuine. As for value, I can't say but because they are Souval they'll be harder to sell (so a lower than average value would be recommended).

Hi Ian, both look good to me. have to say though the R.S H.S.F may have had a replacement catch the ones that i have come across with the needle pin have the thin rounded hook soldered into a depression ( if that makes sense?but dont take this as gospel, as they could have been using up old stock etc.). This type tends to be associated with late war construction. The price here in England is R.S minesweeper £90-100. H.S.F £160- 190 depending on condition of course. hope this is of some help. All the best.

            Hello Everyone,

I have a side note question...how many lettering styles of R S are there on RS badges? I see that the two R's on these badges are slightly different. Just curious.
            Sincerely Andy B.

Hi Andy there are two types of lettering styles rounded and angular, the H.S. F. is the rounded style. This is where the problem with these awards arise, some collectors believe the rounded style were in fact post war and that only the angular style are correct. All the best

Thanks MRG. Is there a possibility of 3 styles then? as the above two badges have different "R"s. Or would different dies account for the difference? Thanks.

Hi Andy to my knowledge only two styles exist. If you look closely the s is also slightly different although not as noticeable as the R. All the best.

Most of R.S. maker marks are slightly different on each piece. The maker mark is not a universal tool, but unique to each die. Souval just chose to make them that way. Nice badges by the way.

Ed is absolutely correct, there is more than two styles. These marks are part of the die and vary in between badge categories. Some badges are available with more than one style mark, such as the GAB and PAB.
                        Cheers, Frank
