    Minesweeper horizontal pin Deumer ?

    Hello Collectors,

I picked up this Minesweeper badge in great (mint/near mint) condition(it looks way better in hand then on the pictures) I did some research on it, and I think it is Deumer made. What do you guys think ?

    Thanks alot !

    Chris

            Hi Chris,

It is a nice Deumer, but I wonder if it's been dipped in an anti-oxidizing chemical cleaner. Take a look at the dark wave pattern which appears very spotty compared with the uniform dark grey of an unworn Tombak badge. The zinc Deumers have a finish that look sort of like that on the waves but not the Tombak Deumers.

            Best regards,
            ---Norm

Here's a past thread showing a Tombak RK badge before and after chemical dipping. Note the change in the dark finish on the waves.

It might be cleaned (you never know I was not there the past 75+ years) but I don't think it is heavely chemical cleaned, because the badge shows plenty of patina.

I think we have to be carefull to call every mint badge cleaned.

                  Hi Chris,

It was just my opinion based upon the photos provided and your request for comments. I would never suggest calling every mint badge cleaned, and it was only the atypical appearance of the wave pattern finish that raised a red flag, having seen the similar appearance on the cleaned RK badge previously.

                  It's still a nice badge.

                  Best regards,
                  ---Norm
