    East Coast U Boat Badge

    Hi,
    New To The Forum,need Help With A Badge (fantasy Piece)a U-boat Badge Issued To Uboat Crews Who Took Part In Operations Around The Eastern Seaboard Of The U.S.A.oval Solid Badge With Diving U-boat And Something Written On It.bought One In The Mid-seventies.

    Hi Otto,

    As always, a photo is worth a thousand words but it sounds as if you are talking about the Frontreif badge which has nothing to do with the east coast of the US (a new story for me) but is supposed to have been worn by the crews commissioning U-boats, frontreif meaning "front ready" I believe.

    The design of the badge is based upon that shown painted on a conning tower in an original photo. The badge is not an official award and from what I understand at best a private issue. I have never been convinced by these and do not have one in my collection but know others who do like them.

    Would be interested to hear the other guys opinion on this though.

      Thank you very much for the information,that is the badge I was talking about found it yesterday in a box of misc.Kriegsmarine items,hadn't seen it in about 15 years,as for my thinking it was for the East coast of the USA thats what Iwas told when I got it back in 1978.Couldn't post photos working on that....just got digital camera recently..Again thankyou...
