    Schwerin Blockade Breaker

    Hello guys,

I´m having a day off, so I took a camera out to show you my recent addition.

It took me some time to get a miniature as well, but a case is still needed.

I wish I could photograph polished edges better.

    Is everything allright with these?

    Thanks.

    Josef

      Cheers,

I agree with Hubert, a good full-size Blockade Breaker badge.

I'm not quite sure what to make of this type of mini. I've seen four of this variant with the white finish posted on the internet so they're uncommon and a bit strange. The obverse design is the same as Schwerin and it may be a separate small run by Schwerin, but the pin attachment is different and it's puzzling why the finish should be white?

Here are two more examples with this white finish and the gentle curve at the top of the pin attachment.

        Best regards,
        ---Norm

In contrast here are two typical Schwerins, marked and unmarked. Same obverse design and cutouts, but with the usual grey finish and sharp right-angled bend at the top of the pin with the usual tooling mark.

And here side-by-side. Same design but different maker?

Something that might be worth keeping in mind is there was one other maker whose Blockade Breaker was virtually identical in obverse design to Schwerin, namely Meybauer. And Meybauer was also a maker of minis, so that's another possible maker of the "Schwerin-like" mini Blockade Breaker.

              Best regards,

Note the similar circular striations on the reverse of this mini and the full-size Meybauer Blockade Breaker. Also, the slightly raised unfiled edge of the badge margin. Not conclusive, but interesting nevertheless.

                Best regards,

Thanks Hubert and Norm for your answers.

This miniature is tricky indeed and I personally believe it is original.

However after comparing several examples on the internet and Norm´s very educative contribution, it must be a different maker than Schwerin.

                    Hi Guys,
Similiar circular stiriations can also be found on Schwerin 2nd pattern s-boots, my example enclosed. If this white minis are Meybauers and not Schwerins then why full size Meybauers are so rare while white minis not that hard to find? I lean to think that these minis are rather different production run by Schwerin.
                    Cheers,
                    Hubert

                      Hi Hubert,

I've only ever seen 4 of these white minis to date. I've only seen 3 Tombak full-size Meybauers but more of the zincers, so overall it seems the white minis are at least as uncommon as the full-sized Meybauers.

Schwerin is probably the most consistent manufacturer when it comes to hardware -- even that unmarked S-Boat uses the exact same hardware as the marked version. So it seems odd to me for Schwerin to do a small run of minis with different stickpins, different bends at the top and wildly different finish from their usual production? For the full-size Meybauer, if it weren't for the distinctive reverse setup and a few extra handcuts, you might have thought that was a variant Schwerin too.

                      Best regards,
                      ---Norm
