    U-Boat badge question

What do you guys think about this Juncker U-boat...it does not look like the ones that are posted above, also it is tomback but has a base plate at the catch which is wrong for tomback..is this badge a fake?

    Thank you guys very much,

    Warmest Regards,

    John

?? John, you've loaded pics of a Schwerin type badge with Schwerin markings - not the "Juncker" type badge.

Your example (regardless of maker) seems to have lead solder around both the hinge and the catch - to me strongly indicating repair/replacement. It's missing at least one feature I look for on genuien Schwerins (the flashing on the keel) so I can't tell if it's an out-and-out cast repro or simply a genuine badge that's had a really hard life. Measurements would help here imo.

        Regards
        Mike

HI Mike, I am sorry about the mix-up in loading a Schwerin badge on a Juncker forum thread...I have been a bit tired today, I do not have a caliper, but I do have a scale, the badge weighs 24 grams...it looks like there are grind marks on the bottom so maybe the catch was replaced, or the piece is a total fake....where the grind marks are they have ground over part of a name that was scratched into the badge...do you know if this is a correct looking eagle for a Schwerin badge? The pin assembly really looks period done, but I am not too familiar with early Schwerin U-boat badges.

          John

Hi John maybe its just me but i am not that keen on the award you show,mm especially the 68 looks wrong and the H, the arm looks rather thick (pics?), the wreath lacks detail, and the eagle does not appear 100% correct for this maker.

Editied for poor spelling, should ave went to school more

Hi MRG, thank you for that info...they did a really good job on the reverse assembly but I agree the badge itself looks no good, probably one of the old British fakes, John
