    My second Juncker U Boot

This one came with the postman today.
Yes I know it´s missing the flag.

Were in the time frame could this one be.
It has the cirkel plate under the catch and that´s normal for late war zink badges but this one is in tombak.

Please come with inputs on this one.
I took just some quick pictures with my cell phone.

    Andy

          Hi Andy

          It misses the flag

Kidding aside, it looks as if there wasn't added a bronce layer over the zinck, to accomodate the gilding to last longer, and the catch is so like the ones on their BKA's, so my take on it would be that it was produced in 1944/45.

          Cheers Thomas

Wow Andy, very nice Juncker zincer
Flawed hull variant but this hardware variation is missing in the classification system.
            Cheers,
            Hubert

Yes indeed. It's UC# 2.1.8 but with a coke-bottle main pin instead of the straight tapered wide pin. These zincers with the hull flaw are much less common than the Tombak version with the hull flaw and also less common than the other zinc variants, and were prone to the flag breaking off.

I had suspected this variant existed on the basis of the photos I have on file from this 2014 thread (images attached) which again has the flag broken off, but I didn't add it to the classification table because I couldn't verify other examples (until now). I should add it to the table now. (This would become 2.1.9 and the next two variants would be shoved up to 2.1.10 and 2.1.11)

              Best regards,
              ---Norm

Another example was posted in early 2014 here but with an intact flag:

It's high time I added it to the classification system.

                Best regards,
                ---Norm

Thanks Norm for the confirmation. To tell the truth all hull flawed zincers that I have seen so far are missing the flag.
                  Cheers,
                  Hubert

I just noticed that these are photos of the same badge. The flag must have broken off in between the time it was photographed for publication in Weber/Skora's German edition of "Die Kriegsabzeichen der Kriegsmarine" and the posting of those photos by Jirka on GCA in June, 2010.

                      Best regards,
                      ---Norm

                        Hi Norm and BubbaZ

Thanks for your comments, interesting to read.

I bought this one as a Tombak badge and I also did sent the seller a question about it before I decided to buy it.

So should I return it or keep it?

                          Hi Andy,

Even though a zincer it appears to be an uncommon variant by Juncker.

If I was a collector of U-Boat awards then it would be one i would hang on to.

                          Personal choice i guess ??

                          Cheers,Martin.
