U-Boat badge by Petz & Lorenz

    Hi guys

Never stumbled on one of these before. The P&L U-boat badge with the set up they used on the very early combat awards of this maker. The "lillypad" hinge was precisely cut off to fit inside of the wreath. Incredible how "white gold" these badges were finished!

    Hi Giel,

Very nice. Only the fifth example I've seen so far of this variant (UC# 5.3.1 in the comprehensive U-Boat classification). A lot thinner than the other variants which is why I put it first in the P&L classification, not unlike the early Schickle-design in that respect.

That P&L practise of silvering the Tombak badge prior to gilding is unique among U-Boat badge makers -- not sure why they did that.

    Best regards,
    ---Norm
