    WWI U-boot Petz & Lorenz?

    Hello guys,

Don offered me the post it here, not the Imperial era.

I have just looked for pictures about original WWI U-boot badges, but I found only a few ones.

I checked it, and I came to this conclusion, it's an original Petz & Lorenz style ( typical hinge and pin ), but the catch has been broken and maybe the hinge is resoldered.

I don't know, that P&L made WWI U-boot badges - I didn't find any list from the makers - so please help me in the identification.

    Thanks in advance!

    Best regards,
    Gabor

...and to compare the WWII P&L hinge and pis system.

            Hi Gabor,

That Imperial U-Boat is indistinguishable from the 1930s Deumer-attributed hollow badges except for the hardware. Judging from the large clumps of messy solder on the photos, I'd say that "P&L" hinge with pin are replacements (maybe from a Sport badge), and it looks like a catch was also re-soldered on and then lost again.

Like you say, P&L is not a known maker of Imperial U-Boat badges; that doesn't mean they couldn't have made one but this badge doesn't count as evidence, in my opinion.

            Best regards,
            ---Norm

BTW, the solid WW2 P&L U-Boat you posted looks like a nice original, even though there's no obverse view attached.

                Best regards,
                ---Norm

Unfortunately, the WW2 P&L U-boot Badge isn't mine. I posted only the reverse by reason of compare with hinge and pin system.

                  Best regards,
                  Gabor

I agree, Deumer design imperial u-boat with replaced P&L hardware.
                    Cheers,
                    Hubert
