    U boat badge, best investment?

    Hi,

An avid collector of anything Kriegsmarine, I've been burnt so many times so this time I'm taking my time doing the research and learning more about the items I purchase as you all know it's an expensive hobby.

I've chatted to a few people on here who have given me valuable advice regarding other possible buys, but I want would further advice on which is the best investment regarding purchasing a u boat badge for my reefer.

I've looked at so many Sherwin Badges but the eagle and swastika isn't the best, I thought about other well know makers but the quality isn't the best and I'm not buying a zinc badge only Tombac.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Neil

    Hi Neil,

if you are looking for the best eagle design i could only recommend you the early Juncker u-boot badge in tombak. The best design imo and less common than the Schwerin pieces. Here is my piece:

Agreed the Juncker Eagle is the best design IMO although the Schwerin may have the best gilded finish.
      I'd plumb for Juncker personally.

        B H Mayer

B.H. Mayer in tombac also hold their finishes nicely in most cases but the eagle's head is a little pronounced compared to the Juncker.

My advice too. But these early Juncker made badges are way harder to find then the common schwerin badges.....

Thank you for your replies, the Junker badge pictures are a delight to see and excellent condition. I shall see what I can find and try and find a badge similar.

              Hi,
I would also recommend tombak Juncker, but tombak Schwerin (earliest marked variant) and tombak Schickle are also very nice badges.
You can find them all in one thread here http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...=727839&page=5
              Cheers,

Neil, you're on the right track to do your research first. It's hard to say which is a good "investment", but if you need only one, I'd go with a Juncker.

If I had one U-Boat badge in my collection it would be a tombak Juncker with the tombak Schickle a close second.

                  Cheers,Martin.

I've found one Juncker U boat badge on Helmut Weitze but the quality isn't that great, i've also been recommended to check out these websites Militaria Berlin and Carsten Baldes which they have a few on there but the price has to be right for me. I saw a nice Sherwin on Militaria Berlin but it had a small scrape at the back which i didn't go for in the end.

I don't know if anyone could recommend any decent dealers which i am not aware of in my search for a quality Juncker.

                    Thank you.

                    Neil
