I agree it looks like a worn original, but I'm a little puzzled by the margin of the finish on the reverse. We often see curved margins like this at the edge of the dark oxidized reverse finish, but I would expect to see Tombak beyond that point rather than more grey? (Thomas Bendixen's example shown for comparison).

It's almost like someone touched up the grey finish on the back for some reason which doesn't really make sense. Maybe just a factory aberration in the finish where it was applied twice to cover what was perceived as too large an area missing in the first attempt?

          Best regards,
          ---Norm

I'm also a little perturbed by the lack of indentation from the trimming stamp on the internal margin of the cutout on the right (although it still has it on the left which is a good sign).

The good fakes of the Schwerin S-Boat lack the trimming stamp marks on both sides (Two examples shown for comparison).

            Best regards,
            ---Norm

the hinge seems to have some little details that look different from the textbook badge showed here (and maybe the tool used to crimp the pin on the hinge is different), and the gilding has been not done last, the dark grey of the waves is over the wreath gilding in some points.
I don't want to add anything to your opinions, but by your comments could seem that you are saying the badge is fake.

I'm still on the fence. If it's a fake then it's the best I've seen. A lot of it looks good, but it's not textbook for the reasons stated.

nzef1940, could you provide precise height and width in mm and weight in grams?

                  Best regards,
                  ---Norm
