    Interesting Rettenmaier Destroyer

    Hi Guys

Not a rare badge as such but a very late Rettenmaier with dark as opposed to gold finish on the reverse.

Check out the catch! Opens to the left like most Rettenmaier badges- has anyone seen this style of catch on a badge by this maker before?

    Many thanks

    Patrick

      Hi Patrick,

Yes indeed, same catch and orientation as on this Rettenmaier-attributed IAB from Tom's collection. First time I've seen it on this variant of Destroyer (DC# 6.10.3) -- these usually have the leftward opening round-wire catch an the narrow rectangular base plate. The Rettenmaier attribution seems pretty likely but it's still not known if these rather homely pot-metal Destroyers are late war or post-war (or both). No one's first choice as a representative Destroyer badge but good for a variant collector.

      Best regards,
      ---Norm

Yes Patrick, that is exactly what allowed me to make the first connection to Rettenmaier back in 2012, here is the thread:

        Great badge.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little
