    Naval Badges; need opinions

    Hello everyone,

I'm probably too new to this hobby to take the chance I just took in buying a lot of badges yesterday. Are they good; if so, what's their values? I hope to post several other badges of the group I bought, but these are the Naval badges.

    Thanks,

    Harvey

                      Hi Harvey,

Sounds like you're playing with fire buying lots of badges you state you don't know much about.

You've done well on the Schwerin HSF (100% original tombak example in very good condition - a weak/absent 5th example). The RK Minesweeper is also genuine but a zincer with some oxidisation. The U-boat looks very nice but I'm not 100% sure - not a maker I've researched.

                      Regards
                      Mike K

                        Hi Harvey,

I agree with Mike, you have been very lucky and found some very nice originals.

I also like your U-Boat badge and think that it is a nice original,
                        made by C.F. Zimmermann.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Hi Harvey . I agree all nice originals. Ever thought of putting the lottery on you have been lucky, but not recommended. All the best

Thanks guys, it turns out I have been lucky. Normally, due to my ignorance, I only buy items with return privileges; this time all eight badges (and the EKI and DK in Gold posted on the Cross Forum) came from the nephew of the veteran. He wrote down his Uncle's name and unit, and signed a letter that the awards came home from WWII with him, but didn't offer money-back. I've bought a few things from him over the years and never got anything bad. This group came at a very fair price, and looked old, so I took a chance.

A question on the U boat badge; there is a small, and very hard to see, "W" on the reverse, just under the hook. Is this the maker's mark? Also, which maker is "RK"?

                            Thanks Again,

                            Harvey
