    Hi Jean-Charles,

This is a cast copy of the "French-made" Destroyer (the "originals" of which are sometimes attributed to Bacqueville or Mourgeon but absolutely no evidence presented to support this supposition).

At any rate there is a series of these fakes of the French-made badges. They can usually be easily distinguished from the "originals" by the different-shaped hardware, different colouring and different surface texture with pitting.

The Auxiliary Cruiser of this series was discussed recently here:

    Best regards,

To make it more easily identified, here is an accepted period example and the fake posted in this thread. John

For most badges, if you do nothing more than examine/compare the main pins, you will get a red flag if the one you are looking at does not match an accepted original.

Of course, the main pin could have been replaced during the war. Still, the flag is there for you to continue with a more detailed examination of the catch, hinge and obverse.

KM war badges are actually very easy to identify compared to other collecting areas in the hobby.

Naturally, if you are looking at hundreds and hundreds of badges, one can more easily identify the issues, but it all starts with the pin.
