    2 CA badges for opinions

OK, I know the photos are horrible. Can we make any conclusion from these in spite of the quality of the images?

My conclusion is that the top badge is a fake pretending crimped S&L variant but obverse design is not S&L and the finish is wrong.
Bottom badge has a chance to be good S&L zincer.
      Cheers,

          Nothing wrong with those

Top badge looks to be a good "HA" Open the pin and you will see the maker mark by the bottom hook. Very hard to find with gold finish still on the wreath. (needs to be double checked if it has been refinished ???)

Lower badge is either a late unmarked wartime "Juncker" or an "S&L" possibly even off a Barter Board. My vote is a "Juncker" but clear pictures would confirm that.

The bottom badge is the HA. At least on my computer.

              It will be too John,

depends how you have your settings. My settings start at post number 6 first and post number 1 last. Yours will be opposite, starting at post number 1 first and post number 6 last.

Either way it an "HA" with a rare original gold wreath finish or has been refinished ? The detail on the gun and gun turret are hard to see (soft or filled in with thick paint ?)

Another reason to post one badge at a time. Learn something every day. John

                    That would certainly help John,

I have just gone and looked at some of my CA's. I am still confident that the other one is an unmarked "Juncker". However, front on there is not much difference between a Juncker and an S&L.

The pin, hinge and hook are typical of "Juncker". Only the pin is a wee bit shorter but it is the right shape, size, finish. Late in the war, I am told the Juncker pins did get shorter on some badges,

This thread reads a bit like an Abbot and Costello routine --- "I don't know's on third!"

At any rate, the opening post badge is a typical zinc S&L (but hard to tell whether the gilding on the wreath is original). It has one of the less common of the six variants of reverse setup found on this badge (upper right in the attached compilation image). More on this topic here: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...83#post6130883 (There's no such thing as an unmarked Juncker CA badge although the reverse setup is somewhat similar to that used by Juncker on their zincers -- see attached. The cutouts are quite different from the S&L.)

The badge in the second post is indeed a Hermann Aurich but with a replaced main pin and totally refinished obverse and reverse. Not only is the gilding incorrect but on the reverse you can see where the new (incorrect) black finish went over top of the hinge and upper pin but spared the rest of the pin and the catch. The pin can be seen to be a replacement since it lacks the typical tooling mark on the upper portion and the pointed tip is irregular compared with the proper pin. A clever restoration but not the original look.

                      Best regards,
                      ---Norm

                        Cheers Norm,

looks like my pick of "Juncker" is on thin ice. "S&L" wide pin variant it is then

Followed by a refinished/ painted "HA"

Again many thanks for your sterling research and saved images,

                        Chris

Oh yes I stand corrected, the badge I said was fake S&L is realy Aurich CAB. I just could not see the maker's mark on my cell phone... but I am still not convinced it is a good one. There are very good fakes out there, so I'll wait for better images to come.
Here is my Aurich CAB for comparison.
                          Cheers,
