    The left one is a fake, the right one is good IMO.

        I agree. The left one is an old fake based upon the S&L design and with a spurious "21" mark. The right one is the Rettenmaier-attributed type, at least some of which were wartime.

              It's probably worth pointing out that the old "21" marked fake Coastal Artillery was no doubt produced by the same source as the fake U-Boat badges that were in the same auction lot (posted here). Same hinge and main pin. I would assume these came out of the same old collection.

                The "21" fakes all have the same surface flaws which presumably were reproduced from the original crimped S&L badge used as the basis for the casting.
