    1959 Ground Find 2nd Pattern E-Boat Badge

I had a customer come up to me over this weekend's gunshow and he told me about when he was a boy as a USAF child dependent. He lived in Bitberg, Germany with his family. One day while walking through a large open field he kicked a dirt clod and found this. He was always curious how a Naval badge could wind up so far from the sea. I said the area may have been a holding area for POW's or that he could have been transferred into any arm of the Wehrmacht during the latter stages of the war...who knows.

He sent me two quick pictures of the badge and now wants to sell it to me. The catch is broken but it doesn't look bad for having been in the ground until 1959.

Good story, nice example, considering the fact it is a zinc badge and ground dug.

Especially since it was on/in the ground for at least 14 years.

Well, there's no knowing whether or not it was lost/discarded by 1945, or when exactly the original owner or family member may have decided it was too controversial to have lying around. Someone could have been clearing house in 1958-9 for all we know, just as the new laws were coming out.

            Best regards,
            ---Norm
