An original Schwerin in tombak with aluminium globe. Nice one with no issues apparent!

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

        Very,very nice.

A great looking and very desirable badge.

Probably the finest of all badges produced by Schwerin IMO.But then again i'm just a "Hilfskreuzer geek".

        Regards,Martin.

Thanks for the review you guys. Am I allowed to ask what the fair market value on these are on this forum? Thanks for all your help. Much appreciated.

As the condition isn't the best I would say about 1600-1800 EUR

I agree with Alex in regards to the valuation. In regards to the condition, these SB AC badges used to be very hard to find in any condition in tombak years gone by, but more have appeared on the market in recent years.

Therefore collectors are a bit more demanding in condition for these badges if the seller wished to command the top prices for them.

In any case, the condition is not that bad IMO, but the valuation of Alex is exactly right IMO.

                Saved here.

Imo Schwerin badges aren't rare. They are second after Juncker pieces. Maybauer or Schickle - these are really hard to find.

They were rare 8-12 years ago in decent condition, as is this one, or better, and in tombak. I remember on this forum and not seeing one bought or put up for opinion in 2-3 years.

I think the increase in valuation has brought them out of the woodwork and collectors' collections as those collections have been sold off.

Today, you are correct in that if you want one, you can find one. Before, you could not find them anyplace except at a price making them the most expensive SB KM badge to purchase.

Now it is on par with the first pattern S-boat I guess in equal condition. Maybe a bit more.

The word "rare" is quite subjective also. What is rare? Who defines it? Is there a number that makes a badge rare?

If the WAF forum universe of these (database examples) is under 50, is that rare?

Or do we mean that as long as a badge can be bought it is not rare?

Well, it is a matter of interpretation Alex and just because a badge can be obtained, does not make it common, meaning if you say a badge is not "rare" the logical extension of that train of thought is that it is "common". These SB AC badges are not common by any means.

Of course, every collector's badge must be rare by definition. Rarity, value, attainability, authentication, etc, etc, are all part of the mix.

Alex, do not get me wrong. I know that I am discussing the nuances of the English language and this puts you at a disadvantage in that if you challenged me to do the same in Russian, I would be in trouble.

John, maybe I'm not correct here as I'm in this hobby only for 6 years... But for me a word "rare" means "not possible to find even if you have money". During the last few years almost every dealer offers several of them for sale. But of course maybe this is because the high prices - and soon it'll be hard to find them again as it was 4-5 years ago...
