As Hubert has said, an unmarked zincer in the Funcke & Brueninghaus design, but this reverse setup never occurs on the marked version.

What's that residue on the reverse -- looks like glue?

Yes it's glue, the badge was on the cover of a U-740 album.
On the cover, there is also the handmade U-740 emblem.

If you will remove the caop badge from the album in the same way, it will loose all its provenance!
I would have kept all as it is!
