Flatback and a Deumer. Both filled with polishing paste.

I personally would avoid both. They are not necessarily fake or postwar assembled, depends on your opinion of the flatback, but they have been messed with.

Even if in a "group" nothing says they were not added later or if they were actually part of that group as purported.

Buy the item, not the story, on their merits.

IMO both badges not war time pieces.

IMO both badge ARE wartime originals- the flatback corresponds in setup to many other accpeted badges by this same maker believed to be Rettenmaier, this one has been post war painted. I have had a wide pin version of this badge from a direct vet source brought back at the end of the war.

2nd is a nicely worn Deumer- no problems with that one at all.

I agree with John, Patrick and Hubert. Zinc Deumer with lots of polishing paste. Rettenmaier-attributed zincer with wartime-compatible hardware and post-war appearing finish (and polishing paste to add insult to injury).

No way of knowing whether the Rettenmaier-attributed zincer was actually assembled in wartime or not, but like John says has at least been messed with post-war.

                              Best regards,
                              ---Norm
