    Kriegsmarine Destroyer Badge

    Hello Boys and Girls,
I thought I'd show these two badges from two different makers.
The left one is mine and the one on the right is Carl's. We have discussed these two several times and we decided to just post them here and wait for more input from you guys. OK, open the gate and let the bulls run. Here we go!

          Heres the reverse.

Gary, notice the differences between your badge and Georges and mine. The pin is different, different outlines, scorchmarks around the hardware, different metal colors....

Yours also appears to have no applied gold finish. It loos like natural brass.

Well, it's not brass. I took some steelwool and gently rubbed the back. I felt like someone had painted mine to improve it for some reason. I too was a little concerned about the color. I did feel like it was like George's. There is a slight difference in the hinge. I'm still not sure, though.

                  Gary...

Its like Georges? But not like mine? Georges and mine are identical, and neither looks like yours.

The wrong maker mark means nothing to you?

What is there to not be sure about?

                    Gary

                    Gary,

The cutout section between the flag and wreath is different on yours and mine (and Mark's). The outside edge of the wreath above the prow of the ship is different on yours and mine (and Mark's). On yours the lower gun is cut out from the deck. Not on mine (or Mark's).
And the maker mark is different.

(Maybe he's had too much breakfast!! ) )

                      Dear Gary,

In have to chime in with George and Mark. It doesn´t look good. Here are two more Schwerins to compare. One is the zink, one the buntmetall version. I circled an area on the obverse sides. This "cross" is full sized with all arms full length on your badge, while the right side of it is partially "hidden underneath" the wreath on original Schwerins.

Reverse: Not just the lettering is foul also the position of the maker´s mark. It sits too low on yours.

                      Cheers, Frank H.

OK, I see now. The reason I said mine looked more like George's was based on the "jumps out at you" gold color. The cut out by the flag and under the gun were the specifics that are the most obvious. The waves were the same, down to the number of splinters, the anchors, so many things were the same but not those two cut outs and the makers mark, which is the hardest for me to see.
Those damn makers marks do change positions, in one shot they all look like mine, the close-ups, which are very big and clear, look different from the smaller pictures of the same badge. I've been looking with glasses on and off, with and without a magnifyer. Damn it, I need some more breakfast.

                          OK, now what about Carls?

Here's a comparison of Carl's and mine. Same badge design I think. Different pins.

In my opinion, Carl´s pin is a replacement and was taken from a SA-sports badge or something similar:
