    Schwerin U boat for review

I picked this up at the local show over the weekend, it was looked at by two fellow forum members, one of whom is a well known dealer here and nothing was said in the way of it being bad, however. My concern is that I cannot find another Schwerin here that has an eagle like this one has, Its much nicer in hand than these photos show (will try for some better ones later) its been polished by the former owner (he polishes everything) I like the hinge and pin, I like the catch, in fact, I loved it enough to pay decent money foe it but the eagles head makes me wonder, is it a variant? Tom what do you think?
    Many thanks for any opinions,
    Eric

Hi Eric, sorry to say but not even close to original Schwerin... it is a fake based on Deumer design.
      Cheers, Hubert

500 bucks down the toilet. guess I'd better phone the other guy who bought KM badges off of this seller.

Ouch! A real shame, especially since could be easily avoided by checking out the Fakes gallery which contains several variants of this same fake:

Doing a search on the forum shows more examples.

Perhaps off topic (sorry Eric) but I see the day coming soon where it will be SOP for a venue for a show to have free WiFi so that collectors can wander the tables, laptop in hand, and check items like this out before purchasing or simply start using smart phones to accomplish the same thing. The technology is there and shame on us for not using it more to our advantage.

                  Hi Norm,
I searched here (after the fact though) and was unable to locate this gallery using the words 'fake schwerin'
A steep learning curve on these badges and my take away from this is to rely more on my instincts to avoid things I am uncertain of as well as the opinions of others whose money is not the money being spent on such.

I will be contacting the seller shortly to arrange a trade.
Thanks guys for your advice and time,
I wish I had access to this site at these shows.
                  Eric
PS- I will certainly update this thread with the results of the dealings further along this week.

Jandrew- shame on me for being lazy too and not doing my homework.
I have a good phone but have been lazy about learning how to use its features.

Either get that smart phone some college classes at Faber or just go low tech and print out some images at home before hitting a show.

I am very sorry to hear that Eric and hope you'll get your money back asap. To tell the truth I never go to the shows without my smartphone - it keeps me out of troubles and prevents from getting dublets
                        Cheers,

Or one can buy from pickers or the families of vets directly and avoid shows and people walking around with briefcases altogether.
I am leaning towards the former.

                            George,
I have done the image printing routine for things I am looking for and almost every time I come across something I did not anticipate and that I cannot live without!

Or can get "The Kriegsmarine Awards" volumes I, II and III for less than the cost of one badge...
